If someone were to ask me which portrait has been the most challenging to create, I would say, “the last one, the one I am working on now.”
And I genuinely mean it.
The last-minute doubts and my evident technical limitations, especially during the final hours of execution, often overshadow the natural ease of drawing.
Then, suddenly, everything stabilizes.
Compromises are accepted, and the portrait itself seems to ask to be left alone, to acknowledge that it is complete and that this is the best I can achieve.
My fingers ache, the callus on my hand becomes pronounced, and my mind empties of all concerns.
Yet, immediately, I begin to worry about the next portrait, still a blank sheet but already the most challenging one to create.
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to @_syacefis for giving me the opportunity to portray such a beautiful person.
And a special shout-out to all artists today โ Happy #InternationalPortraitDay! May those of you who feel lost in front of a blank canvas find inspiration and joy in the creative process. @nationalportraitgallery
“Dry – PJ Harvey”
Perhaps my choice of title could be misleading.
I’m drawing 12 portraits with the title of a music album that reminds me of the subject, or that I hope the person will listen to soon.
She’s Sya and I choose for her:
